The 2022 centenary celebrations of Scotland’s biggest road and rail transport operator took on a regal dimension when HRH The Princess Royal visited the Donald Malcolm Heritage Centre to preside over a special lunch for 160 invited guests. Alistair Vallance reports from Linwood.
A HOST of prominent members of the road transport industry foregathered late morning on Thursday 23 June to enjoy a special lunch made so, not only because it was part of ongoing centenary celebrations for the Malcolm Group, but this occasion was to be graced with the presence of HRH The Princess Royal in her role as Patron of the industry charity Transaid, of which the Malcolm Group is an ambassador.
Lively industry conversation among the mass of assembled guests suddenly dropped to a whisper as Her Royal Highness entered the unique Heritage Centre and proceeded to meet the Malcolm family followed by various discussions with 100 guests assembled in groups of 10.
Andrew Malcolm, CEO of the Malcolm Group, recalled: “The air of calm and quiet in the building was broken by laughter coming from the introductions in the first group and suddenly there was a marked sense of relaxation which really made the day so special.”
