A first Iveco S-Way has joined the Lochmaben Transport fleet, and co-owner Stevie Walker has another arriving imminently. He talks to Kevin Swallow about fleet replacement, planning the week ahead and maintenance.
It has been 30 years since Stevie Walker joined his father’s coal delivery company, which was 30 years after farmers son and former ‘smiddy’ worker Robert Walker started the firm in the town that bears its name in 1962.
“I left school and did a construction job for six months before starting work for my dad delivering coal, that was 1992,” he recalled.
“We started as Lochmaben Coal Company, and it was a really good little business but eventually we had staffing issues as we couldn’t find anyone reliable to deliver the coal, so we packed it up in 2010.”
