FOLLOWING the diversification into general haulage eight years ago, GH Davies Farms of Shrewsbury is further expanding its tipper fleet with six new Fruehauf trailers.
Today the company operates nine trucks and ten trailers and the order for six are all replacements, given to Fruehauf because they could guarantee quick delivery. The contract was placed in November, explained owner, Harry Davies. “They are all 70cu.yd capacity trailers with a 12in dome. In addition, they all have power operated tailgates and easy sheet systems, everything to make the driver’s life easier,” he added.
The company is moving away from ribbed sided tipping trailers to smooth sided and reports that early indications are the change will yield savings of 0.5mpg minimum, but could be as much as 0.7mpg.
The specification includes a performance chassis, PM/VPG weighing systems, SAF disc axles and Durabrite wheels.
