With six months of impeccable service already under its belt, a new T High 520 tractor unit is making its marque at Buckhaven based, Robert Summers Transport Ltd. John Henderson headed for Fife to talk to managing director, David Summers.
ROBERT Summers Transport is a business that goes the distance in every single aspect of its operations. Founded by Robert Summers back in 1970, with a Bedford TK lorry, the firm has since grown organically without losing any of its quality ethos.
Back in 1994, at the first-ever Transport News Scottish Rewards ceremony, Robert Summers Transport was presented with the Scottish Fleet of the Year award by then emerging Formula 1 driver, David Coulthard. Fast forward 25 years to the 2019 event and Robert’s son, David Summers collected the top Scottish Haulage Company of the Year prize.
Of all the businesses featured in that first, Transport News prize-giving breakfast, only two were still in operation a quarter of a century later. At 87 years young, Robert Summers also retains a great interest in the business. Although officially retired, he still visits the Buckhaven base a few times each week.
