JUST OVER two years ago when Brian Yuill was pondering over the best way to celebrate the forthcoming 70th anniversary of their family company; well-known Blantyre based haulier Yuill & Dodds, he thought of a top of the range replacement flagship truck, for the original that carried the name of his late father, the legendary Jimmy Yuill who passed away in 2006.
With Scania being the preferred brand at Blantyre the enquiry was made, as it happens just as the Swedish manufacturer announced the launch of the S770, to become the highest horsepower tractor unit in European line production.
Perfect, thought Brian, but universal pandemic and materials supply problems delayed the arrival of the truck he so desperately wanted his mother Tish to see, since she was the other half of the successful management team that rose from the buyout of the Dodds in 1983, became the saviours of the Ravenscraig steelworks during the 1984 miner’s strike and progressed over the years in general haulage, tipper work and specialising as a waste carrier with double drive tractor units and moving floor trailers, ultimately generating a fleet of over 100 HGVs.
