THE combination of a current escalation in the Covid pandemic and the rescheduling of implementation dates for all four Low Emission Zones in Scotland’s major cities has led to the postponement of the planned Clean Air Roadshow which was scheduled to be held in and around BT Murrayfield Stadium on Tuesday 22 March 2022.
Event organiser, Road Transport Media, said the Roadshow will certainly go ahead in the future, but now that the LEZ dates have been put back at least 13 months it was felt that a revised date in the Autumn of 2022 would not only give the Covid problem time to settle down, but exhibitors such as truck manufacturers will be able to show their very latest emission-free vans, urban delivery rigids and even tractor units.
Glasgow’s LEZ is due to begin enforcement in June 2023 (for city centre deliveries, although Glasgow ‘residents’ will have until June 2024 to comply) and with Aberdeen and Dundee also following in 2024. Transport News understands that whereas the implementation date for Edinburgh is planned for June 2024, further approval was awaited from the LEZ Committee in January to ‘progress the scheme in accordance with the national timeline.’
