Burnley based haulier EFS Global is celebrating 25 years of growth built on hard work, a clear strategy, and lots and lots of acquisitions, writes David Craik. THEY SAY that you can never buy success, but Burnley based haulier EFS Global is proof that not all old adages are true.
Founded in 1996 by Mark Jones, the business has been transformed – via 19 industry acquisitions to date – from a one man courier operation to a £105 million group employing more than 700 staff covering pallet distribution, general haulage and freight forwarding.
It has 20 depots and offices across the country and operates its own UK and European road freight fleet.
The most recent acquisitions came in December when it purchased two depots, one in the Leeds area and one in the North East of England. This came after it acquired a 90-year-old Bolton based nationwide haulage and distribution group Thomas Harwood & Son for an undisclosed sum in September.
