REACTING to recommendations from DfT’s Heavy Vehicle Testing Review published back in March, the DVSA is ending its moratorium on new ATFs and is now accepting a limited number of applications from operators planning to move locally from an existing site, or if they are proposing new sites on Orkney or mainland Scottish Highlands.
Neil Barlow, DVSA’s head of vehicle policy and engineering, told Transport News: “This is the first step towards opening up the market to new ATFs thereby increasing competition and improving the testing service to HGV operators.
“We recognise that more ATFs will mean more staff, however recruitment is already underway for around 15 additional vehicle testers.”
