THE RHA is calling for urgent government action to ease the driver shortage, made worse by the introduction of IR35 tax changes.
The situation was critical before the pandemic with many EU truckers heading home. Add to that the failure to test new drivers during lockdown which left a backlog of thousands of tests.
Covid-19 saw the introduction of IR35 delayed by one year but it’s now hitting many firms and drivers, says the RHA which is also calling on the government to act on delayed driving tests, and increasing driver facilities including toilets and safe, secure parking.
