CROSS Channel hauliers are concerned that the new Covid testing system for drivers entering England presents a magnate for illegal migrants to stow away in stationary trailers.
Not a problem for drivers electing to be tested on entering England, but many have chosen to use ‘pop-up’ sites at service centres in northern France.
Unfortunately, these sites have been deemed unsecure by UK Border Force and as lorries park up for the length of time it takes to have the driver tested.
The RHA has urged all lorry drivers to wait until entering England before taking the test – mandatory if they are to remain in the UK longer than 48 hours.
Ironically, testing facilities are more accessible in England thanks to France now having dropped its testing demand introduced in the UK back in December, because our neighbours across La Manche has entered lockdown.
