DVSA’s initiative to brake test semi-trailers led to new e-technology that could be used alongside roller brake test machines. Kevin Swallow speaks to Ian Edmundson at TIP Trailer Services about its newly developed Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System.
IN 2018, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) updated its Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness for the first time since it was introduced four years previously.
The document included details of an alternative method to using a calibrated roller brake tester (RBT) to measure performance; the Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS).
Although DVSA doesn’t ‘approve’ software systems or hardware devices it does acknowledge an industry standard specification for EBPMS that can be used to supplement the operators’ maintenance arrangements.
