Lancastrian haulier Fagan & Whalley’s diverse customers and in-house driver training has helped it flourish in difficult times, writes David Craik.
ONE OF the starkest images of the coronavirus lockdown in March was the nation’s supermarket shelves stripped bare of toilet rolls and essential food items.
Not only the grocers stepped forward to ensure that sanity and products were restored to the aisles, but also hauliers such as Lancashire based Fagan & Whalley.
‘It’s been a heck of a challenging year,’ said head of operations Daniel Wood. ‘At the peak of lockdown half of our 170 vehicles were parked up and a third of our 330 staff were on furlough. But we kept going because many of our customers in vital industries such as retail kept going. That meant deliveries of vital food packaging and toilet tissue.’
