MAJOR issues have emerged regarding the availability of truck driving test slots and being able to book theory tests which are rapidly getting pushed further out as more candidates apply. ‘We are unable to book any vocational driving test slots due to the DVSA website having IT issues,’ said Walter Ritchie, boss of Ritchies Training Centre.
‘The lack of availability stops essential workers and emergency service personnel from sitting theory tests which is having an impact on the availability of suitably qualified resources. We receive regular enquiries from paramedics looking to obtain their category C1 licence and are unable to book any slots for their theory tests, which will obviously have an impact on front line resourcing levels.
‘Pearson’s have sole responsibility for the management and delivery of theory tests in the United Kingdom, however, it is apparent to ourselves, that this single point of access is not working and should be reconsidered to allow vocational training establishments to conduct both theory and vocational licence testing. At Ritchies Training Centre, we deliver training and conduct examinations in accordance with governing bodies’ strict guidelines including CPCs.
‘By allowing these measures, the Scottish Government would be taking the lead for vocational training and testing within the United Kingdom,’ suggests the boss of Glasgow based company.
