THE amount of pallet work done by Aberdeen based haulier Caledonian Logistics is down by half, said owner Derek Mitchell.
Responding to reduced work levels, he has had to furlough 26 employees and, so far, four have gone into self isolation. ‘We have parked up six trucks with the downturn in pallet work. It’s the biggest part of our turnover, but we have little control over volume,’ he explained.
Within the long distance division there remains plenty of work heading south into England, but sourcing backloads has proved problematic.
He has worked closely with his suppliers like MAN regarding the changes in extended preventative maintenance inspections and MoT holidays. ‘We have a consultant in place to look at the government’s support scheme,’ he added.
