FOR 152 years Glasgow’s fruit and vegetable market could be found in Candleriggs, a street off the Merchant City. The market itself dates back to the 12th century.
In 1817 Candleriggs became its permanent home until 1969, when developers took over the area to create new pubs and restaurants. It was renamed the Merchant Square and the market moved onto the site of the old Blochairn steelworks.
The 32 acre site is a stone’s throw from junction 14 on the M8, and it is home to Fáilte Group, which is a separate stand-alone business on the site. The group consists of three parts; Fáilte Wholesale, Fáilte Food Service and Fáilte Produce.
