A trade association demands that small trailers towed by trucks and vans that fall outside of the annual test parameters should now be part of the MoT, reports Kevin Swallow, following a free service check which found most were not fit for purpose.
SMALL TRAILERS are a common part of many operator’s fleet of vehicles. Cheap, versatile and lightweight these trailers commonly boost the overall combined vehicle weight. The biggest groups that use small trailers are farmers, construction companies, the allied trades, and utility companies transporting animals, materials, machines and equipment, respectively.
Use of a van with a trailer for hire and reward whose combination exceeds 3,500kgs GVW, requires an operator’s licence and a tachograph with a limit on daily driving time.
