BASED in Dalry, Ayrshire, D&J Reid was started by brothers David and Jamie back in 1980, solely as an agricultural contractor. However, as David’s son Graeme explains, ‘You have to move where the work is at times, so with the slumps in that sector we shifted into more construction related work, and now we do a bit of both.’
‘The others are still involved, but they’re getting on a bit now,’ he says with a grin. ‘They must have been doing something right though. We’ll be celebrating our 38th anniversary soon!’
Apart from a brief experiment back in the 1990s the Reid family have never owned a large vehicle, so their latest acquisition, a 2012 Used FM13 8×4 rigid hook lift with Multilift equipment, is a first for them. The truck also features Volvo’s 13 litre, 440hp Euro 5 engine and an I-Shift automated manual transmission system.
